Turmeric – the secret of a long and healthy life

Turmeric belongs to the group of ginger. It has been used in Indian culture and gastronomy for thousands of years. It is characterized by light yellow color and specific aroma. It has strong antioxidant properties, stimulates digestion, stabilizes blood sugar levels, reduces inflammation, and has a beneficial effect on joint problems.

The first written documents on the use of turmeric date back to 1500 BC. In that period, turmeric was used equally in gastronomy, but also in religious rituals. Today, it is present in Ayurveda, where it is used to treat digestive problems, colds and to heal wounds.

In the Indian world, turmeric is also called “Indian saffron”. In Southeast Asia, it is used as a spice to improve the taste, as a spice for food coloring and as a component of cosmetic products. It is an important ingredient in curry spices. In Indonesia, turmeric leaves are used to roast meat and fish, which get a specific taste in this way.

In traditional medicine, it is used to treat digestive problems, liver disease, to relieve pain and alleviate skin problems. In the last few years, its antioxidant properties have been proven by scientific tests and it has been discovered that turmeric achieves its healing properties thanks to its chemical composition. Turmeric essential oil (1.5-6%) contains tumeron, dihydro-tumeron, zingiber, sabinen, cineole. Curcumin is the main component of turmeric, which is responsible for its yellow color. In addition, it contains vitamin C, potassium, iron, sodium, phosphorus, magnesium and calcium.

Although turmeric has almost no contraindications, its consumption is not recommended during pregnancy, because it stimulates smooth muscle contraction. However, Ayurveda highly recommends it after childbirth precisely because of this feature of it. Scientific research in recent years has revealed that turmeric has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, and thanks to its antimicrobial action, it is an antidote against salmonella typhi, staphylococcus, vibrio cholera and micrococcus pyogenes.

In one clinical experiment, the effect of the phenylbutazone element for reducing inflammation was compared with the effect of turmeric in people with rheumatism. The results showed that turmeric effectively relieved morning stiffness and reduced joint swelling.

Due to these multifaceted healing properties, turmeric should be an integral element of the daily diet, especially in cases of joint problems.

In addition to regular consumption of turmeric, however, it is very important to maintain daily breathing exercises to maintain a healthy skeletal system, consume a variety of foods rich in all substances necessary for normal bone development and reduce the intake of unhealthy foods.
