The invisible Planet 9 on the periphery of the solar system may be a black hole

Scientists are worried that an ancient black hole could swallow the Earth, and it is only one light year from our planet.

A new study published by the Universities of Durham and Illinois states that the body is on the edge of the solar system, which was previously thought to be an invisible planet – in fact a black hole. Scientists are worried about this discovery, because the outer edge of the solar system shows “strange” anomalies.

Concerns arose when the Polish optical instrument OGLE noticed a number of gravitational anomalies. The peculiarities of the gravitational intervention have led researchers to think of the presence of a primordial black hole (PBH) in place of what they previously called “Planet 9”. They believe that this black hole was formed in the first seconds after the Big Bang and that it was somehow caught in our solar system.

The potential existence of a black hole on the edge of the solar system has made scientists wonder if it will one day draw in the Earth and other planets. If that hypothesis is correct, then that black hole is 90 billion kilometers away from the Earth, which is less than one light year and extremely close in astronomical terms.

  • Normal black holes have at least solar mass because they are created from a star, while these primordial ones can be much lighter, say the Earth’s mass, or even lighter – said the authors of the study.

This means that the potential black hole is not big enough to worry about. Scientists also said that the probability that the body is a black hole or a planet is very similar.

  • We are not saying that it cannot be a planet, but that it does not have to be a planet – they pointed out.
