Want to slow down aging early? You must first know more about your skin. Find out if your skin type is prone to wrinkles and what to do about it.
None of us have the same face and skin, but we all have something in common – we don’t want to grow old. Or at least, if we have to age, we don’t want it to be seen on our face.
We cannot stop aging completely, but thanks to modern science and cosmetics, there are ways to prevent severe wrinkles and other noticeable signs of aging (age spots, dry and sagging skin, etc.). However, in order to do that, we need to know something more about aging.
How we age depends on several different factors. Of course, genetics is the main thing and we can’t change anything drastically there. Aging is also influenced by lifestyle and external influences.
But did you know that it depends on our skin type whether our face will age faster? Some skin types have a higher chance of severe wrinkles that can occur early.
However, if your skin type is prone to wrinkles, all is not lost. There is a way to delay aging, if you apply small tricks in time and adjust your habits.

How do certain skin types age?
We’ve all heard of skin types, but how much do we actually know about them? For starters, do you know what your skin type is?
In general, skin types can be classified based on several factors, two of which are very important for aging and wrinkles. The first concerns the color of the skin and complexion, i.e. the presence of melanin in the skin, while the second concerns the presence of sebum and natural oils in and on the facial skin.
Based on skin color, dermatologists distinguish as many as 6 skin types that make up the palette from the lightest skin color to the darkest. Everyone who belongs to the higher types (from the fourth to the sixth), has a higher presence of melanin in the skin, which means that they are more resistant to the sun.
The sun and the sun’s rays are among the most important factors on which aging depends, when it comes to external influences. In short, this means that if you are naturally very pale and have fair skin, you also have a better chance of getting wrinkles early, which can become more pronounced over the years.
The second criterion concerns specifically facial skin and distinguishes 5 skin types:
It is true that our skin becomes drier and more sensitive with age, but a lot depends on the type of skin, how early the wrinkles will appear and whether they will be strong and deep. According to some established rule, dry and sensitive skin ages the fastest, while oily skin is privileged in that regard.
Mixed skin, quite impressively, will not age equally in all parts of the face, but wrinkles will appear where the skin is drier, such as around the eyes or, less often, around the lips. This means that you will need the best cream for wrinkles around the eyes or lips, while you will take care of the rest of the skin completely differently.
Why is the skin still prone to wrinkles?
In addition to genetics and skin type, many things can cause your skin to age faster and cause deep wrinkles.
Gradually, with age, the skin will lose elastin and collagen, which are responsible for its youthful appearance. This is a natural process that, in women, begins to leave more visible consequences, especially in the period before the onset of menopause.
Menopause brings with it a change in hormonal balance, and wrinkles are specifically related to the lack of estrogen, due to which the skin becomes relaxed and easily wrinkles.
The skin also weakens the immunity, ie the defense system, so it becomes weak to free radicals that damage the cells of the facial skin and disrupt its elasticity and firmness. That is why it is advised to increase the intake of antioxidants in this period, especially vitamins C, A and E, in order for the skin to get help in the fight against these intruders.
Your skin type will be prone to wrinkles due to various other factors, such as ethnicity, air pollution, smoking, poor diet, inactive lifestyle, and frequent repetition of the same, typical facial expressions, ie facial expressions.
You’ve all heard of laughing wrinkles, or wrinkles that occur when we frown. In addition to these, there may be other wrinkles related to facial expressions, such as wrinkles caused by smoking.
The sun and its harmful effect on the formation of wrinkles
Of all the external influences that make your skin type prone to wrinkles, the strongest is certainly the influence of the sun’s rays on the skin. Being in the sun for at least 15 minutes every day is healthy for immunity, however, it can be bad for the skin, especially if you do not use a protective factor.
The sun’s UV rays are equally harmful for all skin types, with people with dry and sensitive skin of a lighter color having a better chance of aging faster due to too much sun exposure. The reason for this lies in the fact that UVA and UVB rays break down collagen and elastin, two proteins necessary for young and smooth skin.
That is why it is necessary to always apply a cream with a protective factor that blocks both types of UV rays (usually the creams say that they block a wide range of rays). This is especially true for those parts of the day when the sun is strongest, when the skin needs a minimum factor of 30.
In summer, you will definitely need to tighten precautions, stay out of the sun (no matter how fast you want to tan) and buy a cream with a much higher factor that you will apply regularly (for about 2 hours or immediately after leaving the sea / pool).
Acne and wrinkles – is there a connection?
Acne is usually associated with oily skin types, and we said that they are harder to get wrinkles. Does this mean that acne does not cause wrinkles? Unfortunately, not really.
If you were hoping that the pain with acne would end once you get rid of it, you are wrong. Acne can lead to lower collagen production in the skin, and therefore your skin type is prone to wrinkles.
The truth, in fact, lies in the treatments used to treat pimples and acne. If you use more aggressive preparations and cosmetic treatments, you can damage the facial skin and disturb its balance. This, among other things, is directly reflected in the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin, and thus in the early appearance of wrinkles.
What is it, then advice? For starters, stay away from strong chemicals. Turn to natural cosmetics, mild peels and acne creams that will not harm the skin. If you take care of acne incorrectly, you risk getting scars, which further leads to disruption of the skin structure, so it can also affect the appearance of wrinkles.
Effective creams for all skin types prone to wrinkles
As we have already said, the fact that you cannot stop aging completely should not discourage you. No matter how problematic the skin and the type of skin prone to wrinkles are, there is a way to influence the appearance of your facial skin and how quickly wrinkles will appear.
Your main weapon in the fight against aging are various anti-wrinkle creams, and because it is always more effective to use those that are prevention, that is, those that will prevent wrinkles before they appear.
However, before we move on to specific skin care with anti-wrinkle creams and preparations, let’s determine what is the basic step of protection against wrinkles. The first step is two things:
– cream with a protective factor and
We have already talked about the harmful effects of the sun’s rays and the importance of protection from them. But moisturizer is just as important for quality facial skin care. Hydration is very important for the production of collagen and elastin and is probably most responsible for smooth and healthy skin.
Today, these two creams are usually combined, that is, a quality daily moisturizer already contains a certain SP factor. Moreover, many liquid powders contain it today. However, that does not mean that you will not need stronger protection on those days when the sun is stronger.
When it comes to anti-wrinkle creams in particular, the best anti-aging creams you can afford are creams that contain antioxidants (such as vitamin C) that help to adequately protect the skin from various external influences and damage.
Then, you need creams that contain special active formulas that prevent the formation of wrinkles, the so-called anti-age creams. Of course, there are several types of them, so it is best to adjust them to your age so that you do not use too strong ingredients too soon.
Roughly, they say that anti-age creams should start in the twenties (later if you have a skin type that is not prone to wrinkles). Although modern dermatology thinks that it may be too early, nothing harmful can happen to you if you choose a mild anti-age cream that, for this age, practically only maintains hydration and elasticity.
When you are over 30, you can include retinol in your regular facial skin care regimen, which is perhaps the main ingredient in the fight against wrinkles. It is most often found in creams, but also in serums and eye creams.
In any case, whatever you choose, make sure that this product suits your skin type so that the skin is not damaged. Also, stick to a care system once you adopt it. This means no skipping steps.
Skin loves routine and regular commitment, and if you want to prevent them from fighting you suddenly, follow your care regimen.
Change your life habits and prevent the formation of wrinkles
Some of the following tips may sound like real torture, but it has been proven that bad life habits in most cases manifest themselves in the form of bad skin that ages quickly.
Even if you decide not to follow anything else, listen to at least the first and main advice: drink plenty of water. As important as hydration is on the outside, with creams, so much, if not more, is hydration on the inside. If you cause yourself to become dehydrated, the consequences will be felt on the skin that looks dry, tired and finally old.
Here are some good hydration tips:
1. Adjust the amount of water you drink to yourself; we don’t all need the same amount of fluid.
2. But don’t wait to get thirsty to drink a glass of water.
3. Keep about 8-9 glasses of water a day and it is quite solid hydration.
4. Drink the first glass of water as soon as you wake up.
5. Drink enough water before, during and after training.
6. Avoid drinks that take away the amount of water in your body (such as coffee, alcohol, carbonated drinks, energy drinks, etc.).
Another important tip is to eat healthy. If the skin does not get all the nutrients it needs to be radiant and young, wrinkles will arrive at your address quickly. Make sure you eat foods that contain antioxidants (vitamins A and C, above all), iron, zinc, protein and omega-3 fats.
Our suggestion for a healthy menu? Green vegetables, fruits, avocados, seeds and nuts, berries and salmon.
Where there is a healthy diet, there is exercise, so try to be physically active. Although we associate exercise almost exclusively with muscles, the consequences of not exercising are also reflected on the skin. If you exercise regularly, your skin will function healthier, so it will be more resistant to all those external influences that affect the formation of wrinkles.
If we have scared you so far, here is one piece of advice that you will surely like: get some sleep. When we sleep, our skin regenerates, and for facial skin it is especially important because it fights the formation of wrinkles on its own.
During sleep, the face is relaxed and does not fight extra (unless you sleep on your stomach, in which case you must urgently get rid of it). As a result, the skin has the opportunity to renew its cells the way they need them.
Bad habits that you urgently need to get rid of
When it comes to skin type prone to wrinkles, it’s not just about healthy habits that you can incorporate into your daily routine to slow down aging. On the contrary, it is much more about giving up bad habits.
If you do not eat enough vitamins, you can always make up for them with supplements or creams. If you decide not to exercise, you can help your skin get rid of toxins with various cosmetic and spa treatments. However, you can’t think of anything for bad habits that will nullify their effect.
The first bad habit you should give up is smoking. In addition to accelerating the formation of wrinkles due to the characteristic facial movements, nicotine directly dries the skin, slows down the production of elastin and collagen and creates unevenness in the complexion. Try to stop, and you will see that your skin will glow.
Another, perhaps more harmful bad habit is stress. Now, if you can stop smoking, you will hardly ever be able to get rid of stress completely. And that is understandable; no one is deluded that a stress-free life is possible.
However, to maintain the immunity of your facial skin and thus slow down the formation of wrinkles, you should find ways to relax and slightly reduce the level of stress on a daily basis. Otherwise, you risk not only wrinkles, but also acne, eczema or some other skin disease whose cause may be stress.
