AppGallery arrives on Huawei Watch 3

AppGallery, the official Huawei app store, will be found on Huawei smartwatches for the first time. After refreshing the AppGallery interface this year, Huawei has announced that there will be significant improvements and has fulfilled those promises.

AppGallery in numbers

Although the global version of the AppGallery app store was launched in April 2018, it should be noted that it has been around for 9 years! AppGallery has eighteen categories. There are two key games and applications (within which there are an additional 17 categories). The app store is available in 170 countries worldwide, with 540 million active users globally. The apps available on AppGallery have been downloaded 384.4 billion times over the past year.

It is also worth mentioning some data about the AppGallery application store, which are very relevant for the market outside of China. During 2020, the number of new apps in AppGallery outside of China was 10 times higher than in 2019. Huawei has done a lot to improve security. Included is verification of the real name of the developer, a four-step review process, download and installation protection, as well as a mechanism for secure application operation. At the same time, Huawei AppGallery has implemented a global ranking system by year. This system blocks age-inappropriate content based on user settings, taking into account underage users.

Another interesting type of applications that are supported is Quick apps. These are applications that do not require installation, can be used immediately and support real-time refresh. In addition to being less demanding, they also consume less resources, so for example they do not take up much memory. By comparison, 1GB of memory is enough space for over 2000 typical Quick apps, compared to about 20 standard applications. By the end of March this year, more than 8,000 Quick apps were presented globally.

However, the most significant item for Huawei is the expansion of the AppGallery ecosystem to other device categories. With the significant expansion of device categories in Huawei’s offering, there is a need to expand and adapt the ecosystem, bringing new experiences to device classes where this has not been possible so far and consolidating experience within the Huawei ecosystem. A new generation of Huawei Watch 3 smartwatches will soon arrive on our market, and one of the striking trump cards will be that it will support the AppGallery app store, ie have access to a huge number of different applications.

Huawei Watch 3 series with AppGallery app store

Huawei has introduced the Watch 3 series, which consists of the Huawei Watch 3 and Huawei Watch 3 Pro smartwatches. After great success with first and second generation smartwatches, Huawei is significantly expanding the capabilities of its devices. On the hardware side, there is a high-precision sensor that allows you to measure body temperature, a sensor for washing hands and detecting falls, but also new ways to encourage and monitor progress in exercise and health.

When it comes to the software side of the story, the main news with the Watch 3 series is that the watches come with the AppGalllery app store pre-installed, meaning that users will be able to download apps from it. This is a big shift compared to the previous practice, where users generally could not change their smartwatches in terms of software, but mostly used what the smartwatch came with, or what they would get after updating the official firmware.

Huawei also promises long battery life, which was a feature of previous series, as well as a convincing trump card compared to the competition’s smartwatches, which Huawei Watch solutions have surpassed several times in this segment. It is stated that the Watch 3 Pro battery will last up to 21 days with typical use, or up to five days with more intensive use, while with the Watch 3 model it will last up to 14 days with typical use, or up to three days for more demanding users.

Important new features include automatic syncing of favorite playlists from the Huawei Music app. Even if you don’t take your phone with you, you can listen to your favorite music because tracks are automatically inserted on your phone. The playlist on the Watch 3 / Watch 3 Pro is always synchronized with other smart devices via the cloud.
